The Mission of FAME Housing is to provide affordable housing to low- and moderate-income seniors and families in need of such housing. FAME Housing is committed to building strong communities for seniors and families who deserve access to beautiful, safe, affordable housing. The redevelopment of Bryant Manor fits soundly within the mission of FAME Housing by bringing much-needed family housing to an area where very little currently exist. 

Project Description

The Bryant Manor Apartments, located at 1801 E. Yesler Way, is a 1.77-acre site in Seattle's Central District, a historically African American neighborhood. The site comprises six 4-story apartment buildings and 58 units housing large households. FAME Housing will replace the aging buildings with two buildings constructed in 2 phases. The first phase will be a 7-story building with 101 new apartments and the Ashe Prep Early Learning Center. The second phase will begin after construction is complete on phase one and include a 7-story 149-unit building.

Project Goals

The project aims to provide affordable housing for families earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income, with a cultural orientation toward the Black community. The "new" Bryant Manor will include 250 new units. 85% of the units will be family size, creating added capacity for at least 550 family members, fulfilling a critical shortage of family-sized units.

Bryant Manor meets a critically unmet housing need for affordable family-sized units in Seattle, mainly to serve the Black community historically located in the Central District. Studies have shown that Black families who qualify for affordable housing are larger than the county average and particularly larger than white households who qualify for affordable housing. Much of Seattle's new affordable housing stock comprises studio and 1-bedroom units, which does not meet the needs of Black families.
